When "Life is Beautiful" won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival Benigni lept onto the stage to recieve the award, got down on his knees before presenter, Martin Scorsese, and kissed his hand; even in "real life" he was quite a commedian and had a great sense of humor.
In autumn of 1972, Roberto moved to Florence, Italy to take part in some experimental theatre shows, some of which he produced. This launched his performing and directing career.
